Long Weekend in New York : What I Wore

One of my favorite cities (as you may have caught on by now) is NYC, so I jumped on the opportunity to have my bachelorette party there last weekend. We spent 3 days in the city –exploring, eating, drinking and laughing. I will be posting all about what we saw and the food to splurge on in  New York – because if any city deserves its own post on food, it’s New York City.

But for today, lets focus on what to wear. Let me tell you, dressing for NYC where it can go from frigid to blistering in a couple of hours is no easy tasks, however I think I am becoming a master.

Day 1

The first day was full of walking (a mere 17 miles if you check my Fitbit log that day) so I knew the most important thing was comfortable (yet stylish) shoes. The weather was perfect for walking around and exploring the city – it was around 60 degrees when our day started (bright and early at 7 am) and got up to about 75 by afternoon. I knew I needed layers as the temperature was going to be fluctuating so I decided to go with this cami denim dress from Express, a black cardigan from Forever 21 and some leopard Keds that I’ve raved about in the past. The slip on version of my Keds is no longer available but the lace up (“standard”) type is still available here. The denim dress is currently on sale so you should definitely snag it while you can! It’s ultra comfy, has pockets (very important to have while on the go) and can be layered and paired up with so many different outfits. You could definitely tell that I was a  90’s kid with that look, especially when I would get sick of wearing my cardigan and tie it around my waist. That’s the best of the 90s right there, the only thing that could have been more 90s was multiple denim items, but alas, that should stay in that decade. All I needed was a choker and some brown lipstick and it would have been the perfect day to night going out look.

Day 2

The second day consisted of two different parts – the exploring the city/shopping in the beginning of the day and the bachelorette party at night. For the first part – comfortable shoes were again a necessity so I wore my Sophie & Trey sandals that I’ve raved about in my May Favorites and if you follow me on Instagram you’re probably sick of seeing them by now. I also wore a floral dress from Express that is unfortunately no longer available but the Yoins Collection dress I posted about a few weeks ago is very similar and you can find the post here and the dress here.

My bachelorette party outfit was from Lulu’s. The quality of night time pictures (and the state of the people who can take them) can only be so good so I apologize in advance. I chose a nude heel from Call It Spring since my friends made me look “bridal” however, you can always match these with colorful shoes like something yellow, red or multicolored. Much to my friend’s dismay, I ended up going with a suede pair (she was very insistent that I do not buy anything suede since spills happen too often – sorry, Sonia!) and am now waiting for suede cleaner to come in the mail to try and rescue these beauties ☹ Wish me luck! I got many compliments on them throughout the night so I’m really really hoping I can get them back in good shape!

Day 3

My last full day started out with brunch, after all what else do you do on a Sunday in the city (at a gorgeous rooftop café that I’ll be raving about in a later post) so I wanted a pretty dress but since I knew a lot of walking would follow (and let’s be real, my feet were beat from the last few days and the night of dancing in my brand new heels). So, I ended up just wearing my Sophie & Trey sandals again. Doesn’t make for as good of pictures but my feet were thankful. My dress is from Vici Collection and is unfortunately sold out in the teal color but the pink version can still be found.

Something to keep in mind when visiting New York during the spring – summer transition period is to always be prepared for rain or a sudden cold front so I highly advise always having an umbrella in your bag and a sweater or jacket to slip on if it gets cold. When I’m planning my New York outfits, I always think of one word – “layers”. You don’t want to have to spend extra money on buying jackets or sweaters (plus, you usually end up settling for something you wouldn’t even normally wear) when that money can be spent on the amazing food and drinks New York has to offer instead.

Well, there you have it for my New York outfits. I hope I was able to provide some outfit inspiration and be on the lookout for my post about what I did in the city and where I ate. I’m really excited about writing both of those posts so I hope you will find them interesting.

As always, don’t forget to follow me on Instagram, Pinterest and like my Facebook page!
