My Top 5 Face Primers

So, far in my Top 5 Series we’ve covered concealers, mascaras, red nail polishes and today, we are talking foundation primers. I remember the days before primers were even a thing and how mind blowing the concept was when it first came out. Does this make me sound old? Cause after my birthday on Wednesday, age is a sensitive issue haha.

Let’s start with my skin type – I am typically what would be considered normal but in the winter and as of lately, have been going through a dry patch. The frigid temps around here are not doing me any favors so lately, I’ve been big on moisturizing creams and primers. I can get a bit oily in the summer, so I do have a primer for those struggling with this issue as well. My list today contains a good assortment of both drug store pricing and high end so there should be something for everyone. Now let’s get into it…

The Winners

Nivea – Sensitive Post Shave Balm: This took the beauty community by storm a few years ago when it was discovered that this $5 men’s product makes your foundation go on flawlessly while simultaneously hydrating your skin. I was definitely down to try it pretty much right away considering the price tag along with the thought of “well, if it doesn’t work for me, I’ll just pass it along to either my dad or my husband” but, I was keeping it. This is ultra hydrating and a little goes a long way so this bottle will last you a while.

Soap and Glory – One Heck of a Blot Primer: This is for those oily gals or for pretty much anyone during the summer. This primer has a 12 hour “shine block” along with pore shrinking technology that does wonders for your make up during those extra hot days. You don’t need a lot of this to make it work. This mattifies and keeps the oil away for hours. You can snag this for about $14 at either Ulta, Walgreens or Target.

No 7 – Airbrush Away Primer: This one is just an overall great primer that I believe would work for any skin type. It’s hypo-allergenic so if your skin is ultra sensitive, this is something you might want to look into. It makes for a flawless make up application and I love mixing this with liquid brightening and radiance boosters. Snag this for $20 at Target.

Becca First Light Priming Filter Face Primer – If you’re into radiance/glow inducing primers, look no further. This primer hydrates and gives your face a beautiful glow. It is the priciest of the primers I’m talking about today but it’s probably the one I’ve used most this year. You can find this at Sephora for $38.

Benefit – POREfessional Primer: This one has also been a favorite in the beauty community for years and for a good reason. This primer literally erases your pores and makes your face so smooth and flawless that your foundation goes on like a dream. The great thing about this one is that it comes in a mini, standard and jumbo size so if you’re just hoping to try it out or are a dedicated user, there’s an option for you.

Let me know what you guys thought of this list and what you are using for priming these days. I am always looking for a new primer to try-out, so I’ll be happy to take suggestions! As always, thank you for reading and don’t forget to follow me on InstagramPinterest and like my Facebook page!

  2. I love the Nivea aftershave balm…mainly because I love the masculine scent (lol). I have been using the Touch in Sol No Poreblem primer for a while now and while I love it, I am very interested in trying out the No7 primer. I have ultra sensitive skin so I think it might be a good fit! Thanks so much for sharing! xo
