January Empties

You guys already know that after a favorites post, comes an empties post so today, I’ll be talking about the products I used up in the month of January. January was a big month for products. I used up all kinds of stuff – hair, body, make up, pretty much every category is included today.

As you guys know, I have three subscription boxes so I get quite a bit of products in sample/travel size so it’s pretty easy for me to use up and try out a lot of new things. I know some people hate subscription boxes because of the whole travel and sample size aspect but personally, I think it’s perfect for someone that loves to try out different stuff.

Anyway, enough with the extra chatter – let’s get into these products…

Ren Evercalm Ultra Comforting Rescue Mask – I loved this mask. This was perfect for those days where you come home and your skin just looks angry at you for exposing it to such horrible weather. January was a rough month in Cincinnati as far as weather goes so I reached for this mask a lot. So much that I ran out of it. This is a great mask for reducing redness and irritation while simultaneously hydrating your skin. I will definitely look into getting the full size for next winter.

First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser – Now let’s talk about something that I didn’t really like. This cleanser just didn’t do anything for me. It didn’t do a good job taking off my make up and didn’t leave my face feeling very clean. I also didn’t love the texture of the cleanser itself so I will definitely not be re-purchasing. I do love other products by this brand but I guess they can’t all be winners.

NYX Angel Veil Primer – I know this is a lot of people’s holy grail drug store primer but I am just not a fan. I did like the primer when I first got it but I found it to pill up with a lot of my foundations (for those who have never heard this term – I just learned it myself actually. Pilling up is when foundation or other product “ball up” on the skin and roll right off). I think there are other silicone based primers that are much better so I will not be re-purchasing.

Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer – I was really excited to try this foundation out when I first bought it months ago and pretty quickly realized that I did not like it. I still used it just because I already paid for it and it wasn’t horrible, just not great. It emphasized dry spots on my skin and I didn’t love the doe foot applicator with the big glass bottle so just overall, the product wasn’t for me. I also bought this in the summer, when I was tan, so it was hard for me to get use out of this during the winter months.

Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara – This mascara made my lashes clump while adding almost no volume or length which was pretty disappointing cause I was pretty excited to try this. I’ve never tried a mascara by Marc Jacobs and this one did not make me excited to try any others. Pass.

RevitaLash Advanced Serum – I could write a whole separate post about how mad I am about this product. First of, let’s start with the fact that I spent over $100 on it. It made my lashes grow, yes, that part I can definitely vouch for and I had about 2-3 weeks of “long lash” bliss but after that – my lashes fell out. The first time I used this (for a few weeks) was before my wedding which was a mistake because about 3 weeks before the wedding, I ended up having little stubby lashes and pure panic because the whole point of me using this was so I wouldn’t have to wear fake lashes. 3 weeks was thankfully enough time for my lashes to grow back but the panic was not worth it, at all. I then tried this again, thinking maybe something else was the reason for the first fall out but I was wrong and back to having almost no lashes. I am now back with full grown lashes again and throwing this product in the trash.

H2O+ Beauty Specialty Care Hand Cream – Omg you guys, I am seriously in love with this hand cream. This was a lifesaver during the last few months with the cold weather wrecking havoc on my hands. I’m a pharmacist, so I’m constantly administering flu shots and other vaccines so I’m washing my hands at work all the time which dries them out pretty badly. So, I literally just had this hand cream in my white coat pocket at all times and it would rescue my hands. Can’t say enough good things about this and will definitely be buying a new one.

Glossier Body Hero Oil Body Wash – I was so excited to try this based on the reviews but I really did not like this product. Turns out, I need my body wash to suds up in order to feel clean and since this body wash does not do that, I just never felt very clean after using this. Plus, the scent was very strong and too much for me. I couldn’t wait to finish up this product and move on to a sudsy body wash.

Marc Anthony Argan Oil Hair Spray – One of my favorite hairsprays, ever. This smells great, makes your hair shiny and has a pretty strong hold. It’s infused with keratin and argan oil so it also makes your hair look healthier. I love this stuff. Definitely will buy again.

Tresemme Heat Tamer – A product I’ve repurchased at least 10 times already. This is my holy grail heat protectant spray. I will not use heat tools on my hair if I am out of this product. The nozzle is great and makes for really easy application and the bottle lasts a long time. Plus, you can’t beat the price. You can find this at any local drug store that carries Tresemme or Ulta.

Looking back at this month, there were quite a bit of products that I didn’t like but they’re out of my life now and I can share my findings with you guys. Next month will most likely be light on the empties since I will be out of the country for half the month and will not be trying out a lot of new products. I’m trying to pack lightly for this vacation -we’ll see if I succeed.

Let me know what you guys used up this month and if you’ve tried any of these products! As always, thank you for reading and don’t forget to follow me on InstagramPinterest and like my Facebook page!

I’m not a fan of the first aid beauty cleanser either. I’m making myself finish it but it makes my skin so dry 😩

    1. Same! I just was not a fan at all! And beauty subscription boxes seem to love it so I’m always hoping they don’t send me another one!

We don’t have Walgreens in Canada, but when I visit Cali once again in a few months I’ll be sure to pick that up!

  5. Oh my gosh, thanks for sharing about that lash product. I can’t imagine how terrifying it would be for our lashes to fall off, much less before such an important day!

    1. Exactly! I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone even though I know sometimes people have completely different reactions to products!
