While I’ve always loved how pleated skirts look, they’ve always intimidated me for whatever reason. Actually, I know the reason – I didn’t know how to wear them. I always thought you could just throw on a basic v-neck tee with them but when I actually tried out that look, I did not like how my midsection looked at all. You could tell where the shirt was tucked in pretty much no matter what you wore underneath and it just didn’t look as good as I would have hoped.
Then, I had an epiphany the other day – I could tie my shirt right around the midsection on the side, and that bump would be gone and it would even add something different to the outfit and that is how this outfit was born.
Pleated skirts truly can be worn many different ways. If you have the right skirt that is. Body suits are great in this case because they eliminate the bump that I was talking about previously and with how many bodysuit options there are now, it’s easy to create an awesome outfit with the combination. I do, however, think that tank tops are the way to go with these skirts in the summer. I like to follow my own rule “if the bottom is loose or flowy, to go with a tighter fit on top” and that’s exactly what I did with this outfit.
My pleated skirt is originally from Express but is unfortunately no longer available but, I found many other great options for you guys. This midi polka dot one from Forever 21 would be perfect for some print mixing if you wanted to do a similar striped top to mine or any other solid print would work. This one from H&M is very similar to mine, just a tad bit longer and it comes in three different colors. Saving the best for last, this absolutely gorgeous one from Nasty Gal would be so much fun for going out or an event with the beautiful detailing and the metallic details.
Are you into pleats? If so, how do you wear them? Let me know in the comments!
As always, thank you for reading!

I used to feel exactly the same as you! I just never knew what to pair these type of skirts with… Now i wear them with all sorts, baggy jumpers, plain t shirts, boots and trainers! Depending on the weather of course
