Recent Empties

It’s been a while since I’ve written an Empties post which is why there are going to be so many products to talk about today. In fact, there were so many, I actually had to pitch a few that weren’t “memorable enough” just so this post wouldn’t be overwhelmingly long. I’m planning on getting back onto the monthly sharing of Empties so these should get back to the normal length of 6 – 8 products. Yes, I know the average of how many things I use up a month.

If you’re not familiar with my Empties posts, I’m going to split up the products based on three categories ( skincare, make up and other (which typically involves hair and body products)) and talk about whether or not I would repurchase these products and what I thought of them. Let’s jump right in.

Skincare

The Ordinary “Buffet” Serum – This was one of my first ever The Ordinary purchase and was based on an article I read that said if you don’t know where to start with this brand, choose this serum. If you’re familiar with The Ordinary, they have really complicated products and names that make you put in extra research to figure out if those ingredients are right for your skintype and whether that’s what you’re actually looking for for your skin. This one is an overall great serum because it targets aging, dullness of the skin and dryness. I think this was a great serum to try and you can’t beat the price (and that goes for all The Ordinary products). So if you want a nice serum but don’t want to spend a lot, check this one out.

Price: $14.80

Would I repurchase? Probably.

Glossier “Invisible Shield” SPF – This is a daily sunscreen from Glossier that I was really into at first, but then realized some faults. One, this bottle is super expensive for how much product you actually get. Second, the product starts going bad pretty quickly if you don’t use it up right away. If you don’t think about these two things, yes, it’s a nice sunscreen but I definitely think there are better options out there.

Price: $25

Would I repurchase? No.

H2O Beauty Elements Cleanser – One of my favorite cleansers of all time. This feels so gentle on your skin and does such a great job getting all the make up off. It has a gel like consistency but does not have a sticky feeling to it at all. I am a big fan of this stuff and would highly recommend checking it out. This used to be sold at Ulta but is unfortunately no longer there.

Price: $20

Would I repurchase? Definitely.

Make Up

Colourpop BFF Mascara – Honestly, this was a little dry for me. I can deal with dry mascaras for a little while but this one just didn’t do enough for me to want to re-purchase it later. I will say, I did snag a blue one because it’s a great price for a mascara and the pigmentation is great but as far as a regular black day to day mascara, there’s better options out there.

Price: $8 (but on sale at Ulta for $5.60 right now!)

Would I repurchase? No.

NYX On the Rise Mascara – Yes, we are going to get all the mascaras out of the way first and yes, there are a few that got put away for the next empties because mascara is the number one thing I go through the fastest. This was a good day to day drugstore mascara. It definitely adds a lot of volume and comes with a plastic rounded bristle. I would recommend it if you’re on the market for a new drugstore mascara to try out.

Price: $11 ( but on sale at Ulta for $7.70 right now)

Would I repurchase? Probably not but only because I love trying new mascaras.

First Aid Beauty Hello FAB Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer– I really liked this primer. It added so much glow to your skin underneath foundation and was a really great primer to use in the summer months. I will say, I’m not someone that goes for super glowy primers typically in the winter or fall but have recently been transitioning to doing so. Why? Because I’m starting to realize when it’s gross and cold outside, an extra glow on the skin is actually somewhat uplifting. I would check this out if you’re in the market for a new primer.

Price: $28

Would I repurchase? Probably.

Smashbox Studio Skin 24 Hour Concealer – Let’s be real, I don’t need my concealer to last 24 hours (and who is actually wearing make up for that long) but this was a long wearing concealer. It was very hydrating but I will say did crease a bit on me. Overall, I still really liked this one. I had a great match for my skintone which always influences how I feel about a concealer and so I was pretty happy with it. I wouldn’t repurchase because I have so many other great concealers right now but I do think this was a good one.

Price: $24

Would I repurchase? No and see comment above.

NYX Vivid Brights Blue Eyeliner – I absolutely loved this eyeliner and need to go out and re-purchase this because I loved looking at my make up every time I wore this and always got compliments whenever I had this on. This is the most electric blue eyeliner that will make your eyes pop and looks especially pretty when used in combination with blue mascara. You can obviously use it with black mascara as well. It’s a brush applicator and this little tube lasted me a really long time.

Price: $4.90

Would I repurchase? Definitely.

Physician’s Formula Eye Booster Lash 2-in-1 Boosting Eyeliner & Serum – This was my new favorite eyeliner until I discovered the NYX Epic Ink Eyeliner a few months ago. This is a great dupe for Kat Von D Tattoo Liner but it’s no longer my favorite because it’s not as matte and not as black as the NYX one. I can’t say I saw much from the “lash boosting” aspect of this eyeliner, but it was good still and I would still recommend it. It’s more expensive that the NYX one though and I like that one more so I wouldn’t repurchase this anymore.

Price: $11.50

Would I repurchase? No.

Other

Isle of Paradise Self Tanning Water – This is my favorite self tanner that I’ve ever tried. This soaks right into your skin and does not come off on your clothes or your sheets and is really easy to get a completely even application. It does have a scent but it’s not as strong as other self tanners I’ve tried. I personally prefer applying this before bed and letting it soak in overnight. This bottle was enough for at least 10 self tanning sessions for me so I think it’s worth the money. It comes in 3 colors and I use the Medium one. (P.S. This originally went into my “skincare” category so if you want a picture of the product, scroll back up to the skincare section).

Price: $28

Would I repurchase? Already have.

Olaplex No 4 Shampoo – I’ve never seen a shampoo actually make a difference in my hair until I tried this product. First of all, I am now a converted, die hard Olaplex fan. Pretty much anything they are going to be releasing in the future, I will be buying to try out. Their products are bomb. That being said, this is probably my second favorite product from their entire line (After the No 3 treatment). This is the best shampoo I’ve ever used. It makes my hair feel so luscious, so healthy, so voluminous, etc etc basically insert all words that have positive associations with hair. I will say, the bottle is pretty small for the price but you really don’t need a lot of product ( a quarter size amount is plenty). I will keep re-purchasing forever.

Price: $28

Would I repurchase? Already have.

Billie “The Shave Cream”  – If you missed my review of the shaving subscription service Billie, definitely check it out right here. I am still loving the razors from the brand and still think they’re the best out there. However, the shaving cream that came from the brand is not my favorite. I thought it was a bit too thick and dulled the razor faster and I just overall didn’t think it was that great for the price. I’m going to stick to my Skintimate or whatever I find at the drug store because I prefer a lighter consistency for my shaving creams.

Price: $8

Would I repurchase? No.

  1. I’ve been curious about the Isle of Paradise! Do you use it on your face too?

    1. Yes! I use it on my face mixed with a moisturizer for the drops. I don’t use the spray on my face though because I feel like it applies unevenly
