Time for one of my favorite monthly posts – the brand spotlight! This month, I will be talking about a brand with a cult following in the UK – No 7. This brand was developed by Boots, a UK company and has made its way over to the US. This company is by no means new – it was launched 77 years ago! Walgreens and Boots recently joined forces and now No 7 and Soap & Glory products (also a Boots brand) can be found in various Walgreens locations. Other places you can find this brand include Ulta and Target. I was really looking forward to doing this brand spotlight because I’ve heard of No 7 for years but never had the chance to buy any of the products. I placed an order on the Walgreens website as they have such a large selection of the No 7 products. If you don’t want to pay shipping fees for orders placed on the Walgreens website, you can always choose the “pick up in store” option and just have it sent to your nearest Walgreens and avoid the shipping charges. The names of all the products will be listed as links to the Walgreens website. If you want to see the whole No 7 Beauty Store, you can access it here.
Overall, I was very impressed with several items for this brand. I will be definitely re-purchasing some of them when I run out. There are a few items however, that I was less than impressed with but I will talk about that in more detail below. There are quite a few products to talk about so let’s get started….
Face:
Airbrush Away Original Primer – I am definitely impressed with this primer. This had a super smooth application and I do think it made my foundation go on flawlessly and helped create that “airbrushed” look. Before this, I have never been impressed with a any drugstore primers (other than the Nivea After Shave Balm which doesn’t really quite fit the primer category but works like a dream) so I was very happy to find this. The price of the primer at Walgreens is $19.99 which is a little steep for drug store but considering most high end primers usually start around the $40 mark, this is a much more affordable option. Plus, with the constant BOGO 50% off on this brand at Walgreens, you can score this for $10 which is a definite win. This is one of my favorite products I tried for this brand and I will definitely be re-purchasing this.
Airbrush Away Foundation – I bought this to go along with the airbrush primer and the two definitely work together well. As far as coverage goes – this is very light coverage for a foundation. I would almost call this a glorified tinted moisturizer. It does have a bit of a glowy finish so if you are a matte finish kind of gal, this is not for you. If your skin is pretty clear and if you don’t have much to cover up, this would be a great option. I will definitely be utilizing this a lot in the summer as I don’t like to wear foundations with a lot of coverage during the warm months. If you are looking for something to cover up spots, acne, etc. – this is not a foundation I would recommend. I am also not a huge fan of the bottle it comes in, more specifically the applicator/dropper that you use to get the foundation out. It’s not very convenient and doesn’t get much product out at a time and just makes the whole process more tedious. Overall, the quality of the product is good for a light coverage foundation with a very smooth finish but if you already have something in your arsenal that fits that description that you like, I wouldn’t bother picking this up. I got mine in the color “Warm Beige” and it was a great fit for my skin tone. It isalso $17.99 which is on the higher end for drugstore foundations.
Quick Thinking Wipes – I am currently working on a roundup of the best make up remover wipes so I was happy to try this one. As far as removing make up goes, this definitely gets the job done. My one complaint about these wipes is that it takes a lot of rubbing and a lot of effort to get everything off. If you are looking for wipes that will be gentle when removing make up, these are probably not the best option. If you are just looking for something that will definitely get all the make-up off and don’t mind the lack of “gentleness”, these aren’t bad ones to try out. These don’t have much of a scent to them which I always find to be a positive since more fragrance can tend to more irritation of the skin and if you are sensitive to smells in general, you don’t want your make up remover wipes to be very fragrant. A pack of 30 is $7 but they do sell bundles that have more of the wipes.
Nails:
Gel Finish Nail Polish – This is by far, my least favorite product I tried out for this brand. I have tried so many nail polishes and I can truly say, this is one of the worst ones I’ve ever tried. After doing 3 coats, it still doesn’t look opaque and it is very runny. I would not recommend this one at all. I actually paid for one of the colors (the silver – Moon Shimmer) and got the other one (the red – Pillarbox) as a gift with purchase. The nail polish costs $9 which is more than OPI and Essie polishes and the quality is worse than the $2 Sinful Color polishes that you can also find at Walgreens.
Lips:
Moisture Drench Lipstick – I cannot say enough good things about this lipstick. I got mine in Pillarbox which is the most perfect shade of red that I have ever owned. I actually also got this as a gift with purchase and am SO happy about that since I wasn’t planning on buying this myself. I will definitely be buying more lipsticks from this brand. The formula is great, it is super long wearing and goes on so smoothly. Definitely recommend picking one of these up. They are $12.00 and there are quite a few shade options available.
High Shine Lip Crayon – I also can’t say enough good things about this. This is my favorite lip crayon that I have ever owned. The shade that I purchased is Daydreamer which is a perfect pinky nude with a slight shimmer. It looks so good on the lips, doesn’t dry them out or emphasize dry spots if you have them and lasts quite a while on the lips. I am going to have to pick up a few more shades in this formula because I am so impressed with it. The cost is $9.99 and there are several shade options available.
Eyes:
Stay Perfect Eye shadow – I picked this up in the color “Matte Mocha” which is my go-to eye shadow shade. The pigmentation is pretty good, it lasts a long time on the eyes and the blendability is great. From just trying out one color, I would say the quality of the matte shadows is worth checking out. The cost is $6.49 and there are many shades available. There are also several quads and palettes available as well.
Dramatic Lift Mascara – This is a great every day mascara. It definitely adds quite a bit of length and gives you a more “wide eyed” look. I have been using this frequently this month for when I’m going for a more day time look. It’s $9.99 so just on par with all other drug store mascaras. The mascara isn’t life changing or anything but if you are looking for a good day to day mascara, I would recommend picking this one up.
Extreme Length Mascara – This mascara does add length but I found it to be a bit clumpy and not quite as lengthening as I was hoping. I am also a die hard “They’re Real” by Benefit fan and tend to compare a lot of my mascaras to that which may be why I was a bit disappointed with this one. I was hoping for this to be my new “going out” mascara for when I’m looking for dramatic length and volume but it didn’t quite measure up.
So to wrap it all up, I will say that I was most impressed with the lip products and the face primer. If you are going to get anything out of this post, it’s that those 3 products are definitely worth picking up. If you have any questions or if you have tried other No 7 products that you think I should pick up, please comment below! I love hearing from you guys!
As always, I hope this was helpful and hope you have a great rest of your week!
I wish we had boots in the US 😦
