Last month while writing my first ever “Empties” post, a post where I review products I just finished using, I voiced my concern about not being able to make this a monthly series. This was solely due to the sheer volume of products I try out on a daily and monthly basis. What I learned this month, however, is that it turns out, yes I can! So let’s get into these empties…
Eco Tools Perfecting Blender Duo – I picked up this beautyblender dupe after hearing some good reviews online and was very disappointed. The bigger sponge is relatively hard as compared to the original, and doesn’t do a great job blending while the small sponge is pretty much hard as a rock and absolutely useless. It took me about two tries to realize that I am never using the smaller sponge again and I suffered through the bigger sponge for a few more weeks. I would recommend sticking to either the original beautyblender, the L’oreal Infallible Foundation Sponge or my all-time favorite, the Morphe Flawless Beauty sponge.
MakeUp Drop – I saw these silicon make up applicators all over the place when they first came out with everyone raving about how much more use you can get out of your foundation by using it. I was definitely intrigued and was excited to receive it in my BeautyCon Summer box (RIP Beautycon seasonal boxes). For some reason it took me months to actually put my hands on it and when I did, I wasn’t impressed. Yes, a small drop of foundation goes a long way with this applicator but it takes about 2-3x longer for you to get your foundation on you and to get it all blended in. My make-up routine already takes up enough time, I don’t need to make it any longer. Pass.
Nuxe Moisturizing Creme – I’ve been seeing a lot of this brand lately as a lot of people were super into their lip mask/treatment and was excited when I received this moisturizer in my ipsy bag. This moisturizer is definitely on the thicker side and is more appropriate for colder months so I did not appreciate it as much as I probably would have if it were say, December. I also was not a fan of the scent. It had a strong perfume scent that was very overpowering so I will have to pass on this one for that reason.
Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye – I was so excited to try this cult favorite product and it did not disappoint. I applied this every night before bed and noticed a brighter and smoother looking undereye during use. I don’t suffer from puffiness or bags under my eyes but I do get dark circles and I thought this product did a great job preventing their appearance. Now this product is definitely on the pricier side but I do think I will be picking it up in full size.
Givenchy Noir Interedit Mascara – I received this mascara complimentary from Influenster and was super intrigued to try it out since the wand was very innovative (bent at a 90 degree angle for additional length to your outer lashes). I ended up absolutely loving it for about a month or two but a bit disappointed later at how quickly it dried out. The mascara has a subtle perfume scent (at least I thought it was subtle – a lot of reviews online talked about how overpowering it was but I do not share that opinion) and a plastic wand with many bristles that created great length and volume. I’m still considering re-purchasing it even with the short shelf life because of how great my lashes looked with it on.
Clinique Lash Power Mascara – Now let’s talk about a mascara I would never ever re-purchase. First of all, I think all tubing mascaras need to have it clearly labeled that they are not standard mascaras because I’m sure I’m not the only person that absolutely hates them. For those not familiar with tubing mascaras – they can be washed away with water as your mascara “rolls” off in little tubes off your lashes. While doing that, those kind of mascaras tend to take some lashes with them so I am not a fan, at all. Even if I decided to ignore the fact that this was a tubing mascara, I would not re-purchase this. This didn’t create any volume or length and barely made it look like you have mascara on and I am not a fan of that kind of look. I’m not about natural lashes. I’m all about length and volume. Pass.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel – Last but not least, my favorite eyebrow product. This clear brow gel is what I use to “set” my eyebrows no matter what I use to fill them in – pencil or powder. This gel locks everything in and makes sure the eyebrows don’t budge all day. It is a great product to have in your arsenal and I highly recommend picking it up. The ABH brow gel also comes in colored versions which are awesome if you are not looking to spend much time on your eyebrows. I like to have the brown one to travel with when I am just looking for a quick fix, since it fills in and sets all at once. I’ve already re-purchased this gel and will keep repurchasing.
Well there you have it for my September empties. Let me know if you have any questions on product’s mentioned today! Hope everyone is having a great October so far!
I’m actually loving the big sponge, although as you said, the small one is completely useless!
