If you’re someone that follows bloggers and influencers on Instagram or via blog subscriptions, you probably fall into two categories: love all #Nsale coverage or soooo over it. In case you fall in the first category, I figured I’d at least give some of my own input for shopping the sale. This will be my third Nordstrom sale that I’ve shopped and I’ve figured out some things for myself and hopefully my input will help guide you in case you need some advice or are new to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.
So some basics first – the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale or #Nsale as you might see it referred to on Instagram is a once a year event when Nordstrom releases their fall preview and discounts a ton of items. This happens late July/August every year and basically gets people ready for #fallfashion time. They release access in order of status based on whether or not you’re a Nordstrom credit card holder and how much you spend on your card per year (so basically the more you spend, the earlier your access to the sale). On August 19th, access will open to everyone regardless of status. This is a great time to snag items that don’t typically go on sale so the whole point of my post today is to tell you what I think is actually worth snagging during the sale.
Outerwear
By outerwear I mean coats but there is an array of jackets that are worth looking into as well. I personally spend all winter wearing wool or wool blend coats because they actually keep you warm while also looking super chic so I’ve linked some of the ones they have this year that are worth looking into. You don’t get a lot of discounts on coats usually until after the season is over so this is a great way to stock up and snag some great options for the upcoming fall/winter if you live in an area that has true winters. I personally prefer longer coats now whereas I definitely used to be a peacoat kind of girl. Both the coats I’m linking are great because they’re not your typical colors yet will still go with almost any outfit and they have details to them that make them stand out and not look boring. They’re both over $100 off right now with the sale and are investment pieces that will last you years so I think they’re worth the splurge.
Spanx Leggings
Yes, I am specifically singling out Spanx leggings and no other leggings from the sale and I know there are others to choose from. Spanx leggings are pretty pricey and almost never go on sale and this is a great time to pick them up. Their quality is like no other and especially their faux leather leggings are a great staple to have in your closet for fall and winter because they pair so well with sweaters and so many other looks. In fact, I dedicated a whole post to all the ways you can wear the Spanx leather leggings which you can access here. I picked up the regular leggings during this years’ sale and have high hopes for them as well.
Black Skinny Jeans
This is a great time to buy jeans in general if you’re looking to invest in a quality piece but I’m specifically going to talk about black skinny jeans. I am a big believer that one of the main pieces a girl needs in her closet is a great pair of black skinny jeans and since this is something I think most people would get a ton of wear out of, I believe it’s a piece that should be good quality that will stand the test of time. So keeping all that in mind, I highly recommend these black skinny jeans from Madewell that are part of the sale. These tuck everything in and still sit comfortably and are great quality. I’ve had mine for a little over a year and would highly recommend them.
Cardigans
The sale is always a great place to get cardigans because I would say they’re one of the most abundant categories that’s featured. I have snagged a few great ones over the last few years and would say if that’s something you wear a lot during the fall and winter (and I know for me, I definitely wear cardigans all the time) I would pick a few up. I would recommend getting a solid color and one with a pattern to spruce up your fall wardrobe. This one from Madewell is a great option cause it gives you a pop of color and is super soft and warm so it’s my top pick but there are a ton of options to choose from in the cardigan department.
Shoes
So I know most people focus on the boots during the sale and probably for a good reason because they usually have great boot options but I have actually had better luck with some casual shoe options over the years. I will also say, I’m not too impressed with the boot selection this year anyway. This slip on though was calling my name and is something that I think I’d get a ton of wear out of (especially having a newborn that loves being outside. It’s great having comfortable slip on options that are easily accessible) and would go well with jeans, leggings and casual tshirt dresses.
Well, that’s my input for you guys for the sale! I think a lot of people feel pressured to shop the sale and end up snagging items just to get them while they’re on sale but I personally recommend going in with a strategy and only buying what you need and getting investment type pieces that will last through the years. Let me know what you’re picking up or have already snagged and what you’re most excited about! Hopefully this was at least somewhat helpful for some of you! As always, thanks for reading!
