Best of Beauty : 2020 Edition

Although we are almost a month into 2021, I thought I would still take the time to talk about my favorite products from 2020. Even though most of us just stayed home most of the year and in my case, had a baby and didn’t wear nearly as much make up as usual, it was still a year full of great make up, skincare and hair care discoveries. I love rounding up the year with my favorite products because to make it onto this list, these products had to blow me away and stand out with all the other countless products I was constantly trying. I am going to focus on 5 best products in each category, thus writing about 15 products in today’s post. I will be breaking the post up by category and if you follow me on Instagram, you’ve already seen what I have to say about the hair and skincare products. Anyway, let’s dive in.

Skincare

Thayer’s Alcohol Free Witch Hazel Facial Toner – I have been sleeping on toner for years and after adding one to my night time skincare routine noticed a huge improvement in the texture of my skin. I have had little milia around my forehead for years now and turns out all I needed to do to get rid of it was add a toner to my routine. This one by Thayer’s is super affordable, comes in a huge bottle and is very gentle on the skin. I got the cucumber scent which I really liked but will probably try out the rose scent next.

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant – This one is a really unique because it comes in powder form and after mixing it with water, the consistency becomes paste like and can then be applied to the skin. The exfoliator itself is super super gentle but very effective and leaves your skin feeling very soft. I’m a fan.

Youth to the People – Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dream Mask – If I had to make a top 5 beauty discoveries of the year list, this would be on it. This sleeping mask literally saved my skin when I was pregnant. My skin was so dry and dull and constantly flaring up and after using this for literally one night, I woke up with my skin transformed. It looked hydrated, bright and so healthy and I was so happy. Now I use this maybe 1 – 2 times a week if that but you can bet that on those really brutally cold days, I am applying this before bed.

Embryolisse Lait Crème Concentre – This isn’t just a 2020 favorite, it’s been a favorite for a few years now but until I find a moisturizer that I like more than this one, it will continue making my list. It has a slight fragrance but nothing crazy and doesn’t feel heavy duty but really really gives your skin that moisture that it craves, especially in the winter.

Tula Probiotic Hydrogel Masks – These have made me realize just how much better hydrogel masks are than sheet masks. They don’t slide off as easily, they leave your skin feeling more hydrated and you tend to not have to keep them on as long. One of the things I dislike about sheet masks is the 30 minute commitment you have to make sometimes to use them.

Hair

Gisou Honey Infused Hair Oil – This is a more recent discovery but it didn’t take long for it to shoot up to be one of my favorite hair products ever. This hair oil is by far the most effective hair oil for smoothing frizz and for leaving your ends looking healthy. This stuff is so freaking expensive which is a shame but honestly, worth the high price tag. I bought a limited edition Gisou kit that had shampoo, conditioner, a hair mask and this oil and it was a great introduction to the brand. I use this oil when I wear my hair blown out or straightened.

L’oreal Elvive 8 Second Wonder Water – By far my biggest Instagram hit with you guys. I shared this in the summer and saw a lot of people pick it up after and rave about this product. It’s so good. It works in seconds, hence the name and makes your hair feel soooo soft. You know that post salon softness that is almost impossible to achieve on your own? That’s what this does but with ease and only costs $10 for the whole bottle. You put this in your hair while it’s wet in the shower ( I recommend doing this after shampooing and conditioning although the bottle says you can skip the conditioning step), massage for a few seconds then rinse. Blow dry or heat style for best effect.

Bondi Boost HG Shampoo – This has been a shampoo that I turned to due to post partum hair loss. It smells nice (like peppermint), comes in a bottle with a pump and makes your hair grow. You can buy the smaller bottle to see how you feel before committing to the large size.

Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair Hair Oil – Another hair oil but this one I use when I wear my hair curly. This has the best packaging ever (a little rose floating in the bottle, very Beauty and the Beast) and smells amazing. I love putting this through my curls to help tame frizz and to give some shine.

Amika Flash Instant Shine Mask – This is to shine the way the Wonder Water is to softness. This is a great treatment to use before a special event if you want the shine in your hair to turn heads. Also works very quick hence the name and has awesome packaging.

Make Up

L’oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Mascara – Here I was thinking I discovered a new mascara and turns out this has been out on the market for years. I fell in love with this months ago and it’s still the number one mascara I reach for. This gives your lashes both length and volume and has a really interesting angled fiber brush.

Nudestix “Sweet Peach Peony” Cream Blush – This might be my favorite blush shade of all time. It is a beautiful peachy pink that is so flattering and the formula of Nudestix blushes (and their cream bronzers) is a great one so if you’re looking to dip your toes into cream products, I would highly recommend Nudestix.

The Ordinary Serum Foundation – This is a super lightweight foundation that gives medium coverage and a subtle glow to your skin. I absolutely love how this looks and love how lightweight it feels. You don’t feel like you’re wearing a foundation at all because of the serum consistency. They have so many shades too and the price is literally amazing. You can’t even find prices like this at the drugstore. The Ordinary is in its own lane.

Lorac Noir Palette – I didn’t think another palette would ever impress me because I have a million palettes and to be honest, because of my Boxycharm subscription am a little “paletted” out but the second I saw this, I knew I had to have it. It’s amazing quality, I really don’t think Lorac palettes get enough credit. The shimmers and the mattes are both great and if you want something for a great night time smokey look, this will be it.

Ilia NightLite Bronzer – I picked this up in the shade “” and it’s such a beautiful bronzer. The powder is so finely milled, it helps get a flawless application. It’s also from a clean beauty brand which is a plus. I am a big bronzer fan and am always looking for the next best thing and this was it for me in 2020.

Have you guys tried any of these products? What were your 2020 beauty favorites? Let me know and I’ll add them to my list!

As always, thanks for reading!
